Applications open for 2017 Broadmeadows Street Festival

Community grants for the Broadmeadows Street Festival 2017 officially open on Monday 5 December and Hume City Council is encouraging local groups to apply.

Broadmeadows Street Festival will take place on Sunday 9 April 2017, from 1pm until 7pm, along Tanderrum Way.

Hume Mayor, Councillor Drew Jessop said the grants were a great opportunity for community groups to get involved in one of the City’s biggest events.

“The 2017 Broadmeadows Street Festival is set to be the biggest yet and we want to showcase local community groups.

“We have such an array of talented Hume residents and we want to share their culture and heritage with all those attending,” Cr Jessop said.

Cr Jessop said that grants were available to groups from a range of categories including dance and crafts.

“We will have a large stage where members of organisations can perform through different means, including song, dance, theatrics and poetry.

“We are also looking for groups who can demonstrate cooking, facilitate handicrafts or even costumes, so festival-goers can experience the colour and vibrancy of other cultures.

“Groups are even welcome to display a short film or a photographic exhibition, as presentations can be a great way to get a glimpse into someone’s heritage.”

Community groups can apply for a grant of up to $2,500, with money to go towards performance or exhibit preparations.

Local incorporated groups who would like to perform or exhibit at the festival should submit an application to Hume City Council by Friday 6 January 2017.
