Landfill (Tips) & Recycling Centres

Both locations are currently closed to the public and open to commercial customers exempt from restrictions only. Go to Visiting the Tip on the new Hume website for conditions that apply and the most up to date information.

Bolinda Road Resource Recovery Centre in Campbellfield and Riddell Road Waste and Recycling Transfer Station in Sunbury are open daily from 8am - 4pm. The Sunbury Tip Shop and Warehouse of Wonders at Bolinda Road Resource Recovery Centre are closed until further notice. See the latest Tip fees and charges.  

To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 we are currently not accepting cash. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but the health and safety of our community is our top priority.

Please note due to social distancing regulations there may be delays at the transfer stations. Staff will also not be able to help unload customers waste. We thank you for your patience and understanding during this time. Before visiting the waste facilities please consider if it is essential to dispose of your waste at this time.

Social Distancing

  • Maintain a minimum 1.5m separation between staff and customers
  • One customer vehicle unloading per bay at one time, unloading bays separated by minimum 1.5m, please follow staff directions
  • Customers to remain in their vehicle at gatehouse upon arrival and at all times unless unloading.

Residents can book a hard rubbish collection by contacting Customer Service on 9205 2200 between 8am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

Hume residents can take up to two (2) trailer loads of waste to the tip for free, between 1 October and 30 September each year.

To use your tip pass, take your Rates & Valuation Notice (digital Rates & Valuation Notices will not be accepted) to the tip with you. If you are renting, contact Council to arrange for your tip pass.

Tip passes are a part of Hume's hard waste service. Residents are entitled to one home collection of up to 3 cubic metres of hard waste plus one of the following:

  • A second home collection of up to 3 cubic metres of hard waste; OR
  • Two visits to the landfill in a single axle, trailer, car boot, van, station wagon, 4WD ot utility (ute) tray; OR
  • One visit to the landfilli n a double-axle (tandem-axle) trailer.

You can't swap your First Free 3 cubic Metre collection for extra trips to the tip.

 Don't waste your pass, the following items can be taken to the tip anytime for FREE:

  • Paint (up to 100 litres free of charge, in containers no bigger than 20 litre - find out more information from Paintback)
  • Car batteries and other batteries
  • Empty gas bottles
  • Motor oil (up to 10 litres free of charge, then $2 per litre)
  • Fluorescent tubes and Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs)
  • Scrap metal including white goods
  • Household cleaning, garden and automotive chemicals
  • Select household recyclables including paper and cardboard; steel and aluminium cans. All recyclables will be transferred to a recycling service provider at no cost. Currently these processors are VISY and Liberty One Steel. 
  • E-waste, which is any item with a plug, battery or cord that is no longer working or wanted. This includes:
    • large appliances: refrigerators, washing machines, cookers, microwaves, electric fans, air conditioners;
    • small appliances: irons, toasters, coffee machines, hair dryers, watches;
    • IT, telecommunications and TV equipment: computers, laptops, printers, mobile phones, televisions, remote controls, modems;
    • Other e-waste: medical devices, automatic dispensers, thermostats;
    • Lighting equipment: fluorescent lamps, high intensity discharge lamps, compact fluorescent lamps, LEDs;
    • Electrical and electronic tools: drills, saws, sewing machines, lawn mowers, batteries;
    • Toys, leisure and sports equipment: electric trains and racing cars; hand-held video games; consoles; amplifiers; musical instruments; radios.

Hume Clean Day - Free recycling days

Council hosts FREE recycling collection days called Hume Clean Days to help you dispose of electronic items, mattresses, white goods, tyres and couches.

In 2020, Council will host Hume Clean Days on the following dates:

  • Saturday 5 December 2020

The following items are accepted for free at Hume Clean Days:

  • Mattresses
  • Couches
  • Tyres
  • Whitegoods (Including fridges, washing machines and dryers)
  • E-waste (Including televisions, computers, printers, DVDs, CDs, speakers, sound equipment, DVD players, video recorders, mobile phones, household appliances)

A limit of 15 items from the above list will be accepted per household. Proof of Hume residency (such as drivers licence or Rates Notice) is required when dropping off goods. 

Please note, single-axle trailer, double axle-trailer, car boot, van, station wagon, 4WD or utility tray (ute) only. No trucks or commercial quantities accepted.

Please note, cars and trailers only at Campbellfield Resource Recover Centre - no trucks permitted. 

All cars, trailers, utes and vans must be unloaded by hand at Campbellfield and Sunbury, No tipping of waste. 

Opening Hours

The Bolinda Road Resource Recovery Centre and the Riddell Road Waste and Recycling Transfer Station are open seven days a week from 8am - 4pm. They are closed on ANZAC Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.

Closed on Total Fire Ban Days (Central District) for Campbellfield and Sunbury.

Opening hours subject to change without notice on windy days. If in doubt please phone the facility directly to confirm the opening hours.

Fees and Charges

Fees and charges for disposing materials at Council's Resource Recovery Centre and Landfill can be found on our Landfill & Recycling Fees page. To help prevent the spread of COVID-19 we are currently not accepting cash. We are also unable to accept split payments.

Unacceptable items

Only household products will be accepted at Council's Landfill and Resource Recovery Centres. Chemicals from farm, commercial or industrial applications will not be accepted. Asbestos waste will not be accepted.

Asbestos Removal

Transportation and disposal of asbestos is controlled by the EPA. To find a registered asbestos removalist or disposal facility close to you, search the Yellow Pages.
